West Covina Community Information

West Covina is located about 20 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles. The 2010 census indicates the population to be 106,098.

The city of West Covina incorporated as an independent city in 1923. The primary motivation was to stop the city of Covina from establishing a sewage farm in the area.

During this time and for many years after, West Covina was predominately comprised of walnut and orange groves. From 1950 to 1960 West Covina was one of the fastest growing cities in the country. The population increased from less than 5000 to more than 50,000 residents.

West Covina is home to one of the region’s largest shopping malls, Westfield-West Covina. The Westfield Mall is home to over 190 stores including, Sears, Macy’s, Best Buy, JC Penny’s and many more.  West Covina is also the home of the Big League Dreams Sports Park. This sprawling sport complex features an ice hockey rink, batting cages, a multi-use pavilion and six high quality baseball fields. West Covina is near the 10, 605, 210 and 57 freeways.
